Sign Language

A couple months ago, I began a process to enroll Jade in some speech therapy sessions to help prompt her verbal communication. I know all kids progress differently, but given how early Jade did everything else (crawl, stand, walk, etc.) I was slightly concerned as to why she wasn't babbling as much as other kids her age. She had a complete evaluation that assessed all areas including her interaction attachment in which she was age equivalent, receptive language where she was the equivalent of at least 21 months and expressive language where she was the equivalent of between 12 and 15 months, thus making her eligible for speech therapy services through the Early Intervention program.

So far she has had 5 sessions (which are at our house which is so nice) and as made so much progress. While she isn't using a lot of real words consistently yet, she is making SO many different consonant and vowel sounds and using vocalizations in play that she hadn't been before. Yay! :)

On of my favorite things that they teach the kids is some simple sign language to help communicate with them. Jade looks so adorable when she does her signs and has picked up on them so quickly. Here is a little video of her doing signs "more", "open" and "help". The fake cry at the end was not one of the signs she learned in therapy, it just kind of came on it's own and I think its so cute!! :)

I should also add, that while she is doing the signs on command in this video, she does use them correctly in day to day activity. We now request she sign more if she wants more, open if she needs something opened or turned on and help if she needs help.

Family Pictures

Once again, another amazing photo session with Sylver! She got the most amazing smiles out of Jade. This whole shoot happened in about 20 minutes as it was 40 degrees outside and super windy. I couldn't be happier with how they turned out! Maybe if you are lucky, some of these will end up in your mailbox. :)

The end.

Halloween

The weather around here has been pretty rainy and dreary. It rained all day on Halloween. Luckily, there was a period of about 45 minutes where the rain stopped just long enough for us to trick or treat around our neighborhood!

My little Minnie Mouse ready to trick or treat!

Jade walked the whole time and held my hand so nicely!

She loved picking out her own pieces of candy!

This was the best "smile" i could get (I am holding up a piece of her candy)!

Full shot of her costume, minus the shoes that you can see in the background! :)

Nate's awesome pumpkin carving really made our front porch festive!

Flashcards

When Jade puts her mind to it, she is awesome at pointing out objects, shapes, colors and animals. Here is a quick video of her practicing her animal Flashcards!

Pumpkin Patch

We had a great family outing to the pumpkin patch over the weekend. The highlights for Jade were:

Feeding the goats

Going through the corn maze

Eating apple cider donuts

Lifting pumpkins

Ignoring Mommy and her camera

Playing peek-a-boo

Picking a pumpkin

and spending the day with both Mommy and Daddy together!

18 Months

I can't believe my baby is halfway to two already! Two seems so much older than one! Here is a little bit about Jade at 1.5 years.

You have so much personality and are so fun to be around. You continually makes me smile and laugh at the goofy things you come up with! I especially love your big squinty eyed smile! :)

You love giving hugs and kisses, and even stopped what you were doing at the park to give your daddy a kiss.

You are still in the 90th percentile for height (33.25 inches) and weight (27.8 lbs).

Your favorite thing to play with is your play kitchen, specifically the toy cupcakes that were mine when I was little. You love carrying them all around the house and you know which one is chocolate and which one is vanilla.

You still love reading books, doing puzzles and singing songs. You have recently become interested in Nursery Rhymes. Your favorites are "This Little Piggy", "1, 2 Buckle My Shoe", "Row Row Row your Boat" and "Ring around the Rosie".

A few other things about you at 1.5 years. Your favorite thing to eat is any kind of fruit, you can say a handful of words, but you often communicate more non-verbally, you remember and understand so much it's scary. You make being your mom so easy and have brought so much joy into our lives this past year and a half.

Feels Like Fall

Today was a perfect fall day, which made our first visit to the pumpkin patch even more perfect! Jade really enjoyed riding the train, exploring the petting zoo and hanging out with her "boyfriend" Owen!

Riding the train

Both were super fascinated by the donkey

Aww :)

Blowing kisses!

I'm glad we still have a trip planned to another pumpkin patch later this month. Nate will be able to join us then and we can pick our pumpkins for carving. Plus...another opportunity for apple cider donuts! I love the fall!
